5 Tips To Find Your Apartment Home

Finding An Apartment Home: 5 Tips to Help You Search

  |     |   Tips and Tricks

We know searching for a new home can be a long and arduous process, taking weeks and even months to find a new apartment. With so many local apartment homes and prices constantly fluctuating, the search can be daunting. It can be tough to know where to start, so we put together a few tips to help you find the right home for your needs.

1. Figure Out a Budget

One of the most important factors in finding a new place is price. With housing on the rise, it can be harder to find places within your price range. Location and season can affect pricing, so do some research on the city in which you’d like to live. What are market prices in specific areas? Ask around to see what other people are paying. Newer places may have a lot more included amenities for the price, so figure external factors into your budget.

2. Consider the Commute and Location Carefully

If you already have a job and know your place of work, consider the commute. What is the traffic like in the area? Are there buses, trains, and ample local transportation options? Do you want to be close to other specific amenities?

These are all questions to consider when choosing a place, as your commute length may make or break your day. Some suburbs and neighborhoods have very different cultures than others, so go explore a bit if you can to see where you think you’d be happiest.

3. Make a List of Things You Cannot Live Without

Do you need an office?

How many bathrooms do you want?

Are pets in the picture?

Do you have to have an onsite gym?

These things may matter to you or not, but be sure to figure out what does matter and write it all down. This will narrow your search to realistic options.

4. Be Patient, If You Can, and Take Tours!

Finding a dream home can take time, so do not rush into a situation where you may be miserable. If you cannot afford to wait, consider hiring a real estate agent or broker to help you in your search. They have access to a lot of information that you may not have, so the finder’s fee may be worth it. They can also set up tours for you and get you into more places than you would yourself.

5. Ask a Lot of Questions

Property managers are in their positions for a purpose. Utilize them as much as you can, asking questions about the apartments you are interested in before you even tour them.

  • Does the property charge for parking? Pets?

  • If you aren’t going to pay them for parking, what are the other options?

  • What amenities are included?

  • Does the property factor utilities into the price? This could save hundreds of dollars!

  • Is renter’s insurance required?

  • Trash? Recycle? Maintenance? Landscaping?

These are all important things to consider. Marq on Main is here to help with any questions you may have.
